A denture is a removable prosthesis for missing teeth and surrounding tissues. Two types of dentures are available — complete and partial dentures. Complete dentures are used when all the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain.
The denture development process takes about three to six weeks and several appointments, once your dentist at MP Dental determines what type of appliance is best for you.
Full dentures are retained by suction to the gums and partial dentures have clasps on them that wrap around the natural teeth.
Dentures can be loose if there is inadequate bone or gum support. This can result in the dentures coming loose when you laugh or cough. Food can also get underneath the denture if they do not sit properly. Apart from causing embarrassment frequent and abnormal movements of dentures can cause ulceration and sore gums
Denture implants can be used to retain or support a denture. A cost-effective solution is to use two implants to stabilise the denture. Alternately four or more implants can be used to fix the denture (bridge) permanently. A fixed implant bridge will transfer all the forces to the bone and cause less discomfort to your gums.
